Nebraska Advocacy Services - The Center for Disability Rights, Law, and Advocacy

In collaboration with the Nebraska Parity Coalition, we were successful in securing the passage a new law in Nebraska providing equalized insurance treatment of mental and physical health conditions. Working together, we were able to commission an actuarial study on the costs of implementing the proposed Act, using insurance company figures, to show that insurance costs would not increase. NAS worked with key Legislators to maneuver the bill through the legislative process. Our public policy advocacy efforts resulted in achieving a limited form of parity between private insurance coverage for serious mental illnesses and the coverage for physical illnesses with the passage of the Mental Illness Insurance Parity Act.
